Welcome to Checkpoints
Hello to our Newest Lighthouse! Welcome to Checkpoints. We are so excited to have you join this incredible network of women- six years of endless work went into creating this to be the best safety network in existence, and we are so excited to have you on board.
With that out of the way, we need to tell you a few things. First off, that manual you were handed? That's your ultimate Safety Guide. That's not available online, to further protect you from potential harm. This is an obfuscated security platform, which protects you from abusers who are looking over your shoulder while using the many features in-app. To clarify, you might see your notifications and such coming from a name called 'The Digital Library' All notifications mimic book or song releases to ensure abusers monitoring your device remain unaware of the app's true functions.

Location Services
We collect your location a lot during this process- this is used for almost all of our features, whether to find nannies near you, safe spaces to eat near you, for other women near you, for walking routes-all of it, really. This location is never shared to outside this platform, and we refuse to ever harvest your information or sell it to marketers- we wouldn't go this far to protect you only to then sell you out just for money- we aren't your ex, we aren't here to disappoint you.

Camera & Microphone
We collect your camera for both recording and audio, as well as your microphone. This is NOT on a vast majority of the time- while all features technically 'use' this- it has one purpose, and one purpose alone- when you are using the SOS system. If you are the victim, we record the footage from your camera to hopefully capture footage of the person that is trying to harm you. If you are a responder, we use this to record their surroundings at all times- while you are searching for a woman. When you have found her and marked her as either safe or unsafe, the navigation completely stops, and so does the recording. This footage is saved on your phone so you can see exactly what was recorded at any point- and it also goes to our server- it auto deletes unless we need to save it for evidence of something happening to someone, but we do not keep it except for that one use case.

Push Notifications
We use Firebase FCM to manage push notifications so that both android and IOS users can see each other's alerts, and these alerts are a secondary option to our alerts menu in-app, so users can see alerts instantly. Firebase is not the most reliable of software, so we do have an in-app alerts menu to where users can see all alerts at all times- but this way it's a second option to ensure that women in trouble can be helped.
